Leamne Alvarez

Leamne Pérez Zequeira, born in Camaguey, Cuba, began her musical journey at the Vocational School of Arts, specializing in clarinet under Professor Sergio Delgado Castillo. She graduated from the José White School as a clarinetist and music teacher. Leamne established a clarinet program in Ciego de Ávila and taught at her alma mater in Camaguey, also performing with the city’s Symphony Orchestra and Music Band. She graduated as a radio and theater actress, participating in various productions.

In 2009, Leamne moved to the United States with her husband, Malcolm Álvarez, and their children. They founded Da Capo Ensemble, performing at numerous events.

Malcolm Alvarez

Born and raised in Camaguey, Cuba, Malcolm Alvarez was deeply influenced by his artistic parents—his mother, a contralto singer, and his father, a sound engineer and artistic director. Pursuing a passion for music, he studied classical clarinet at EVA Luis Casas Romero and José White music schools, guided by esteemed teachers and inspired by notable musicians.

Malcolm excelled, winning first place in the Amadeo Roldan contest and forming a saxophone quartet. He performed with local bands like Salsometro and Tradison before playing in Varadero with Apojeo. Returning to Camaguey, he joined the Boleros de Oro Festival and other projects.

After moving to Louisville, Kentucky, Malcolm played with bands like Rolando Matias and the AfroRican Band, and later with Timbason and the Kentucky All-Stars. In 2010, he relocated to Florida, performing with various artists and forming Da Capo Ensemble with his wife, Leamne Álvarez Pérez Zequeira. Together, they have performed nationwide.
